Gone are the days of people giving you their email address just because you asked for it.
“Sign up to be on our email list!”
“Sign up to receive the latest news from our site!”
When was the last time you signed up for a list ‘just because‘?
People don’t just hand over their email address these days, and if they do give it to you, they’re definitely expecting something of value in return (Don’t you?).
With that in mind, I thought I would put together a list of freebies you can offer your email subscribers. And if you have anything to add to this list, please tell me in the comments at the end of this post!
Video works really well as an incentive, and is one of the easiest freebies to create because you can pack a lot of information into even just a 5 minute video clip.
Offer insider secrets, exclusive interviews, or a how-to video:
- “How to gain 100 new fans in 24 hours”
- “How to bake the perfect gluten-free cake”
- “Hot to speedread a book in under 30 minutes”
Before you go feeling overwhelmed, know that a free report doesn’t have to be anything fancy. In fact, many free reports being offered are just a really meaty one page document .
One thing you can do is go back through your old Word docs and find an unpublished article. Tweak it, make it look pretty, and voila! A report.
Again, ‘How to’s’ work well for reports, as do top 10 lists.
Have an old ebook that’s no longer flying off the shelves, so to speak?
Give it a quick makeover, and offer it as a freebie. The perceived value of an ebook is huge, and if you’re not generating much revenue with it anymore, perhaps it can be helpful in your list building efforts.
‘Best of’ Compilations
If you have a blog that’s been around a while, cut and paste your top 10, 20 or even 50 blog posts into a Word doc, convert it to PDF, and you’ve got a ‘Best of’ package you can give away.
If you know some of the gurus in your niche, consider asking them for a short interview or Q & A. Have it transcribed (or do it yourself) and you’ve got a hot little package you can offer to your subscribers.
Discounts or Coupon Codes
This is an easy one to set up, and is sure to get you more than a few subscribers. Clearly Contacts has this one nailed!
If you sell a product on your site, offer your email subscribers a discount or coupon code…or better yet, offer this regularly to be sure they STAY on your list.
Inclue the code in your auto responder, and you’re good to go.
This list is by no means exhaustive, but hopefully it gets you on the path to figuring out what YOU can offer as a freebie. The key is exclusivity – Offer your email subscribers something of value that ONLY they get. Make them feel like part of the inner circle, and your list is sure to start growing!
