I just wanted to talk a little bit about building your own fan page. A lot of you are working on a budget or you’re just starting up a business. You’ve heard from me or read here on my blog that it’s important for you to have a fan page, and I agree that it is important.
Fan pages are completely free. You can just create yourself a personal profile with your name and email address. A personal profile is just for your friends, family and people you know.
Then based on your personal profile, you are allowed to create as many fan pages as you would like. Your fan pages are completely separate from your personal profile. Your fan pages will be either for a business or a web site. You can even have one with your name on it where people can just “like” you, if you’re a personality or a well-known teacher or a speaker in your niche market.
When you are creating your fan page, you can set it up completely free. However, it is nice to have a custom welcome tab. That means when people visit your page and are not yet a fan, you’re able to create a special page that encourages them to hit the “like” button.
I recommend that you have an arrow pointing to the “like” button and say, “Click the like button and join us on our page.” If possible, create an email opt-in for your autoresponder on that welcome tab as well. I’m not sure how long Facebook will allow us to do that, but for right now, they are allowing it and the conversions are phenomenal. If you have that for an option, please take it!
How do you create one of these custom welcome tabs? Now, I don’t know. I’m not a coder and don’t know anything about FBML. I know that you can hire someone to do it for you. Leigh is a friend of mine. She’s from Advanced Fan Page Solutions. If you are a corporate client looking for a very slick fan page, Leigh is a great person to see.
If you are a small business or just starting out and on a very tight budget, you can learn to do it yourself. That’s where Get10Kfans.com comes in. Brian Morand of Get10Kfans.com is fantastic! He has put together a $47 product that shows you how to do a bit of FBML coding, how to get your email opt-in on that page and some simple tricks that you can do within your fan page to make a huge difference. You will be way ahead of everybody else.
I didn’t know a lot of the tricks that he is teaching you in that $47 package until I bought it. Now I have it and know he is reliable and trustworthy. I can recommend his products to you.
If you want to get really deep into FBML and learn all of the really snazzy things you can do with it, he has other products available, too. But his Secret Fan Page Guide is $47 and it is fabulous! I highly recommend that. You just go to http://www.get10kfans.com/. You’ll be able to see a video where he shows you a couple of tricks. You can see all about what he does.
Once you have that guide, you’ll be able to set up your own welcome tab and do a couple of really groovy things that will just make your fan page stand out a little better. While I’m in the process of doing that for my fan pages, I wanted you to have the heads-up that I’m doing it, too.
