Getting Started with Facebook Ads

Today, I want to start with “When It’s Right to Start with Facebook Ads.”

I get emails asking, “Are Facebook Ads right for everyone?” The answer is, “No, they are not.”

Facebook Ads will work best for people, businesses and affiliates who have a good converting offer, whether it is Google Ads or is already working on your website where you already have some traffic and SEO strategies in place, and know that your website converts visitors into buyers.

If you have a website that is converting visitors into buyers and your issue is that you just need more traffic, Facebook Ads are a great solution for you. You can split test and test different ad copies to get a lot of targeted traffic to your website.

The problems come in if you don’t have a good converting website. If your website is sluggish, not turning visitors into buyers and you’re struggling in business because of it, that’s a different issue. Trying a Band-Aid solution to a website that is not converting is going to be a waste of your time, money and energy.

I don’t recommend Facebook Ads for people who are just starting out. If you’re brand new to affiliate marketing or to the online business world, I don’t recommend Facebook Ads for you until you are sure that you can get something converting with another format.

The other category where Facebook Ads do not work well is for the people who are selling to a work-from-home or get-rich-quick, make-money-online type niche market. That is a really, really tricky market. If you’re working in that market, Facebook is going to be really tough on you.

Yes, you can advertise some of that stuff as long as you can prove to your viewers that you are legitimate and have a legitimate training program or a legitimate offer. If it’s work-from-home, make money online or MLM and that kind of stuff, it’s going to be really tricky to get those ads approved. I don’t recommend Facebook Ads for those people either.

The third group is a little bit controversial. I don’t recommend that you use Facebook Ads if you don’t already have a Facebook presence. By that I mean if you don’t have a Facebook page. Yes, you can do it. I started Facebook Ads without having a fan page, but having a fan page offers you numerous opportunities to grow your community and to continue the results of your ads.

If you can have that option to send some of your traffic to your fan page and build your fan base, you have many, many more opportunities to interact with those customers than you do if you just send them to your website. If they don’t buy your offer, they are gone forever, so that’s another thing I think is important to keep in mind.

When you first get started with Facebook Ads, you can get in there, just create an ad and send it to any URL that you like. If you are going to do this and are not going to undertake any training or any kind of preparation for it, just make sure that your landing page is unique. Don’t send them to your home page. That is the biggest mistake that I see people make. Don’t just send people directly to your home page. People get lost. You need a unique landing page with a targeted message for your Facebook visitors.

That is my advice for those of you who are starting out with Facebook Ads. Good luck and we’ll talk soon.
