facebook timeline Timeline Image Sizes (2012)

Since the switch to timeline, I’m finding myself constantly having to refer back to the new timeline image sizes. And just when I’d finally gotten the hang of the old sizes icon smile Timeline Image Sizes (2012)

For the most part, if you’re adding an image in a post, milestone, or photo album, you won’t need to worry about sizes. Regardless of what you upload, Facebook will resize your image and it will probably look OK. But for permanent images like your cover photo, profile picture, app thumbnails, and app pages, you’ll need to stick to the standard sizes.

So without further ado, here is a quick reference guide of all the new image sizes for timeline.

Cover photo: 851 x 315

Facebook recommends that your cover photo be a minimum of 720px wide, but 851px is ideal. If you upload anything larger than this, you will be forced to crop out a portion of your image. You can use either a panoramic photo, or design your own image with graphics or a photo montage. Facebook will automatically compress your cover photo, so don’t be surprised if the quality of your uploaded image leaves something to be desired.

Profile picture: 180 x 180

This is the maximum upload size. The profile photo is automatically resized to 125 x 125.

App thumbnails: 111 x 74

Highlighted images: 843 x 403

To highlight a post, click on the star on the top right of the post image. This will expand the post to the full width of the page.

Milestone images: 843 x 403

If you’re having trouble making an event or update into a milestone, make sure you’ve added a ‘founded’ or ‘started’ date to your page, and then you’ll be able to add milestones.

Wall post images: 404 x 404

App pages: 810 or 520 width, any height

Existing apps will be 520px by default, but you can choose to switch them to 810px. If your app page is 520px, it will be centred with white on either side.
